As the predecessor of Yamaha's "Super Bass," this SB-55 is absolutely unique and has roots laying in Jazz Bass' off-set body style. The space-aged shape is very ergonomic and the neck is a standard J-bass type with easy access to the higher frets. The bass has a killer sound and the pickups are hot and articulate. Tone wise they sound somewhere between P- and J- bass. The tonality of the bass is punchy, bright and clear. IT FEATURES individual Volume controls for each pickup, and a Master Tone. This monster would make the perfect companion for a studio musician.

Yamaha SB-55 Information:
It was popular in the jazz and rock scene in the early-to-mid 70s.
Michael Henderson played on one of these and even used it on a various recordings back in the day.

This sweet vintage bass has MOJO seeping out of every pore and is in fantastic condition. Aside from a few light scratches on the back, it is pretty much near mint. The multi-ply tortoise pickguard gives it a cool 60's vibe. Now is your chance to put this vintage Yamaha in your hands and step into your next musical adventure.

  • Neck: Bound Maple with Rosewood Fretboard, 33 3/4" Scale
  • Frets: Medium Jumbo
  • Pickups: 2x Yamaha SB-55 Single Coil, V+V+T

It has just been professionally set up and dialed in for optimal playability and tone. It has low action with no buzzing or dead spots and is an absolute joy to play. It has been deep cleaned and detailed. All guitars will arrive looking and playing great. The frets have been dressed/polished and the fingerboard was cleaned. (Unfinished Rosewood and Ebony boards get treated with Fret Doctor - a proprietary all natural oil that is the best on the market) It was professionally set up and has brand new strings, the action was adjusted, the intonation is spot on and it plays excellent. All the electronics work flawlessly.




* Neck is perfectly straight and the truss rod works with no issues

* It has been professionally set up with nice low action & new American made strings.


* If needed, the frets will be dressed leveled & crowned
