This '76 Explorer is better than ever with its powerful ceramic magnet humbuckers, gold hardware and dot-inlaid rosewood fingerboard. This bad boy has a Mahogany body and neck, 1 11/16" Nut Width, 24 1/2 " scale, 2 Volume, 1 Tone and a 3 Way-Switch. It sports a Tune-o-Matic Bridge and Stopbar Tailpiece. Every Gibson enthusiast is after sound as well as looks and this Explorer will not disappoint with its Early '57 Classic humbuckers. In 2001 Gibson Custom Shop created a Limited Edition of 50 "Clapton Cut" Explorers. Yamano was obviously interested in getting in on this action, but had to find a creative way of getting them made by Gibson. I imagine their American Rep found the solution, use the '76 Limited Edition Explorer they also made in 2001 and add a little Clapton Spice (without using his name or affiliation) with the cool "Cut" and a thinner/faster 60's neck, (The regular limited edition '76 Model they made that year has a '59 neck profile) & '57 Classic Humbuckers (instead of 496R/500T) made exclusively for the Japanese market. If you call Gibson Customer Service, they will verify that this is indeed a Yamano guitar that shipped in may 2001, and that in fact Yamano had the ability to special order guitars.

About Clapton's 1958 Explorer

Eric purchased the guitar at Alex Musical Instruments in New York in the early to mid-70s and it can be seen on photos taken during the ’74-’75 tour.

The guitar was used for several tracks on the '75 album "There's one in every crowd". An original 1975 album is included in the sale! It also can be seen draped around Clapton in a prominent Music Man amplifier catalog of the mid ’70's.
One unique feature on the guitar that attracted his attention was the shortened bass bout (the upper back horn). Clapton initially believed that this came as a result of the guitar being an original prototype, but that theory was eventually debunked and the guitar turned up to be modified by the previous owner. This allegedly made Clapton somewhat pissed, up to the point of trying to return the guitar to the store.

Nevertheless, he used this guitar on several songs from the album “E.C. Was Here” released in 1975. It is also most likely the guitar he was photographed with for the Music Man ad for HD-130 Reverb amplifiers in 1976. The photo was taken so that the sleeve on Eric’s shirt directly covers up the portion of the guitar that was cut off, so this is mostly just a guess.

This guitar is professionally set up and dialed in for optimal tone and playability. It has low action with no buzzing or dead spots and is an absolute joy to play. It has been deep cleaned and detailed. All guitars will arrive looking and playing great. The frets have been leveled / dressed / polished and the fingerboard was cleaned. (Unfinished Rosewood and Ebony boards get treated with Fret Doctor - a proprietary all natural oil that is the best on the market) It has brand new strings, the action was adjusted, the intonation is spot on and it plays excellent. All the electronics work flawlessly.

**** We stand behind every guitar we sell and have consistently delivered quality that beats most people expectations, earning us a reputation for quality that is unrivaled.
