They say that beauty is always in the eye of the beholder and it seems there are at least two sides to every discussion. While wild flame tops are considered collectors gold, the show worthy status symbols of the Uber-kind, there is a faction that flies in the other direction and finds the "Plain Top" a thing of understated beauty. The Guitar Dude is pleased to offer for your consideration and potential consumption, this wonderfully crafted and supremely tone-ful 1997 Les Paul Standard plain top finished in luscious nitro Honey Burst that has aged as gracefully as a trophy wife.
The guitar is in great condition and has a keen, balanced feel with a full and toneful resonance thanks to the original Gibson stamped 490R & 498T Humbuckers Plugged in she's a monster, full of grit and powerful sustain yet with the ability to clean up and sing sweetly when rolled back on the volume pot. This is a Les Paul for classic players and shredders alike, itss heavy presence cutting through any mix. The neck is perfectly comfortable and has a nice fast profile, not too thin but not overly chunky. (similar to a slimmer transitional '59 to '60 Shape) It starts thin but fattens up considerably. All the hardware look great, the bridge pickup has a little tarnishing but everything else is still shiny. Cosmetically the guitar is in overall very condition for being over 30 years old! It has only naturalr play wear, you can see in the pics that it is in absolutely great shape. There are a few nicks and buckle marks on the back. It has some beautiful and highly desirable looking finish checking that all true nitro finishes will show with time. There is lots of lacquer wear on the back of the neck and it looks like a real '50's LP that has been rocked for decades No fake aging or razor blade marks, just real MOJO.
The Les Paul came on the scene in 1952 and after various incarnations became the beloved icon of solid body electric guitars and the darling of players everywhere. By 1958 the first sunburst finishes appeared and the unique and often striking "flame" figuring of the maple tops on these guitars was a standout. Of course, the figuring is a naturally occurring characteristic of eastern maple that has no bearing on tonality or timbre necessarily. In the economics of production all pieces of a specified timber that were suitable for the work involved were used-if you could get a two-piece book matched top out of any blank of good maple you did it. So getting a serious flame top LP was somewhat luck of the draw, what landed in any particular showroom was what was sent to fulfill orders. The Les Paul has seen countless models and varieties but the classic combination of a nice mahogany body/neck, maple top and dual humbuckers is time tested and mother approved. This is a classic and appealing Les Paul with the right look, feel and most importantly tone.
The hardware and electronics are in great condition and operate as they should with no issues and offer exceptional functionality. It should be noted that the pickups have a particularly sweet and articulate sonority with an uncannily authentic PAF tonality. This example is a prime players Lester with beautifully sonorous and acoustically present tonality, allowing the guitar to give up sweet sing and plenty of woody warmth in balanced harmony.The guitar includes it's original Gibson USA brown case that aside from some corrosion on the meal latches is in nice shape well. This is a great opportunity to get your hands an a prime Lester that is destined to be your favorite axe, and a daily grab for your morning coffee jam. We recognize and accept a 7 day return policy as per Reverb guidelines, BUT intentions of the return must be communicated in writing within 3 day of receiving the guitar as indicated by the tracking. Unless the guitar is not as described, ORIGINAL & RETURN SHIPPING COSTS WILL NOT BE REFUNDED. There is a 10% Re-stocking fee for ALL guitars that are returned for ANY reason outside of damage from shipping or it arrives significantly not as described. Please note that we record demo videos to make sure our guitars go out exactly as we describe them with zero issues. We understand that feeling comfortable is vital to the purchase of a guitar/bass so in any case, additional measurements or in hand descriptions are available prior to purchase/shipping. Thats said, guitars travel a great distance some times and in transit things can happen. Also guitars acclimate to new environments and this can cause a need for a new set up or minor adjustment.
